AROUND THE CORNER     By Kindred, Grade 4, Washington, USA

      Chapter 1 The Beginning

Hi my name is Amanda and this is my story about what’s around the corner. It all started Tuesday,October 30th. It was the day before Halloween, the kreepiest night in Spooksberg. Everyone was gonna dress up as something. Well back to the story. I had just woke up and finished getting dressed. Then I heard something growl at me from around the corner. I wasn’t scared. I thought it was my brother’s cat Fillie Bob Joe, but he was not there. So I started to wonder, hmmmm what could have growled at me? I began to get nervous. Was something in here in my house? Just then I heard a crash and my mother scream from the kitchen. I rushed in there and asked what happened. She was standing on a chair, a broken plate and cup at her feet. She told me that the cup and plate flew at her from the counter. I thought about the growling I heard earlier and then I knew there was something around the corner- a thing that does not want us here at all.

      AROUND THE CORNER
      Chapter 2

I peeked into my bedroom before I went inside. I was watching t.v. on bed when all of the sudden a big crash in the laundry room. I carefully tiptoed down the hall to the laundry room door. I tried to open it, but it was locked so I went to get a key. When I unlocked it I could barely get it open, just enough for me to slip in. When I was in there all the clothes were on the floor and soaked. I felt water on my feet. I looked up and saw the washer tipped on its side. I was so scared I ran right across the street to the park and up to the tree house I built there. I just sat there in the corner in a ball and watched.

      AROUND THE CORNER
      Chapter 3 Finding Out

I stood up and peeked through the window of the tree house. Then I felt something on my shoulder. Then it happened. I saw it. I couldn`t believe it! What I saw was my little, fluffy kitten, Oliver, sitting on my shoulder. He made the growling noise. It was him purring. Well I walked back home and slipped into bed with Oliver at my side and slept through the night. And now whenever I hear a growl,I’ll know my kitty’s happy. And that’s my story about what’s around the corner
Now whenever you hear a growl,if you have a cat stay calm (if you don’t, I’d watch out.).
