A Duck Story     By Keagan, Grade 3, New Hampshire

This is an animal story about six ducks. They were all in one

    family.

One winter day the ponds were all frozen and the mother duck

and her babies wanted to have a lesson about learning to swim

and about learning to save themselves from a big, bad bear that

    could swim.

They got a big hammer to make holes in the ice. The big, black

bear was watching them and thinking about how roast duck

would smell and taste. He swam up behind them.

The ducks swam and swam as fast as they could, but that bear

    was too fast for them!

Finally the bear was so tired from swimming that he drowned in

the water. The ducks went all the way home waddling happily.
